GENERAL INFORMATION

Genoa: art, culture, entertainment

“...a big flower placed on earth, with petals formed by the city walls and doors, taking his life from the sea and laying down while opening little by little towards the hills. And the chalice of this flower is the old town, still alive as it was in the past...”

This is Genoa as described by George Byron in 1822, in a letter sent to a friend during his stay in the ligurian main city; and this romantic vision is still valid today, because the ancient heart of the old town has not changed a lot.

Genoa is therefore a place full of history, offering to its visitors with a sort of misterious charm, unveiling surprising mix of ancient and modern, daring combinations of traditional images and far aways countries atmospheres.

From the Porto Antico to the historical fortifications on the hills, from the very modern Acquario to the old and precious Via Aurea, today called via Garibaldi, and still from the charming labirinth of the small lanes, called vicoli, to the promenade on the sea, leading to Boccadasse, beautiful fishermen “village” facing to a small beach, the city centre develops all along the bay of the port, showing the evident beauty of a place kissed with the favours of nature and history.

Genoa and its coasts offer a wide range of attractions, for every sort of interest: historical, architectural, natural, cultural and sportive, not to forget the oenogastronomic tradition, making of Genoa also the seat of important events in this branch such as the Slow Fish Fair or the World Championship of Pesto sauce.
